This Christmas, the team at Aspray House created a very special raffle to raise money for The Alzheimer's Society (including Dementia Friends) Prizes included luxury hampers for ladies and gents, a splendid food hamper full of goodies, and a beautiful bathing set by The Luxury Bathing Company. The home managed to raise £100 for this charity. What an achievement!
Christmas Gift Giving! Today our Deputy, Administrator and Activity Co-ordinator went around the home and gave all our residents their presents from us; they were so happy and enjoyed seeing what was in their gifts. Their smiles and joy were priceless!
This morning, with Hampers in hand, the Manager and her team headed to South London to visit The Belvedere Hotel to see an organization called Streets Kitchen that help the homeless community, providing daily outreaches with food, clothing and information that benefits our streets. They were so pleased and told us the ideas they had for the festive season including a desserts bar where all our handmade treats will be given. We were happy to help and hope they enjoy our hamper of goodies.
Christmas is forever, not for just one day, for loving, sharing, giving, are not to put away. Like bells and lights and tinsel, in some box upon a shelf. The good you do for others is good you do yourself. Aspray Season Greetings from us all and we hope you have a wonderful Christmas!
Some of our jolly staff had been busy organising the residents' and staff Christmas party. We had a fun filled afternoon enjoying a wonderful buffet by our fab kitchen team and playing games including name the Christmas song. They had a wonderful time!
Residents got into the groove yesterday with our 70's Parade! Our hip Activity Girls strutted their stuff along the corridors whilst having songs from from the 70's playing. The residents and staff had a ball!

100 years we remember the young, the brave, the few who gave it their all. Their all for me and you. Poppy fields now grow where young men fought and died. Wear your poppy in remembrance. Wear your poppy with pride. Lest we forget. Thank you to our lovely Kitchen staff for making cupcakes for our residents today!
Today we celebrated a true champs 78th Birthday. Denzil specifically asked for blue decorations and a birthday cake with 78 candle on it. As per Denzil's request, we made this happen. As Denzil was a boxer in his younger days, we even got the Activity Team to dress up in boxing attire! He was so delighted, it brought a tear to his eye. We video called his family so they could wish him a happy birthday and see what we'd put together for him! We hope you have a great day Denzil!
This Halloween was very special at Aspray, as everyone got involved and decorated the home to it's highest standards. The team dressed up in a variety of spooky outfits throughout the week and shared sweets & treats to everyone around the home. Residents and staff got to work making their spooky decorations and carving pumpkins. With the help of our management team, we were lucky to have a socially-distanced party on Friday, October 30.
Our Afternoon Tea was enjoyed by all which consisted of a variety of different flavored teas, homemade treats such as cookies, scones and muffins alongside delicious macaroons.
This special event is held every year to raise money to help the fight against Dementia and Alzheimer's Disease. Our activity girls were very determined to get creative with what they had in the cupboards to cook up some magic in the kitchen. They dusted off everyone's favourite recipes and whisked up something new to raise money for people affected by Dementia.
Today our activity team provided a superb trolley full of mouthwatering vegetables and fruits. They dressed up in carrot and rabbit costumes to brighten up everyone's day and visited everyone in the building to ensure they have a laugh and, most important, get their 5 a day!
Happy Coffee Day! Today's good morning was sponsored by Coffee. International Coffee Day was in full swing yesterday and what a great way to celebrate than having a coffee cart full of different coffees, syrups and pastries that our local Tesco kindly donated. Thank you for making our coffee game strong! Our staff and residents were truly delighted.
A bundle in pink, A bundle in blue, A bundle of love Is coming to you. Our lovely staff gave our new 'mummy to be' a wonderful gold themed surprise baby shower. Everyone joined together to celebrate the special day, as many were keen to gift lovely presents.
Happy Cheeseburger day! To mark the day, our local McDonald's were more than happy to donate some of their delicious foods. Our residents and staff were happily surprised with the tasty treats!
Today our residents and staff gathered together for a Mexican Fiesta full of excitement, joy, fun, food, music, dancing and laughter! Our event was decorated with brightly coloured balloons patterned tableware, pompoms amd Mexican themed balloons.
We have recently introduced our Gardening club here at Aspray. We decided to name it 'Friends' gardening club' as we want our residents to soialize with each other and relish from stress and anxiety as we think about what we do with the plants and what they need.
Our popuae Bingo sesion never fails to brighten up our residents' day! It brings residents together from all over the home allowing them to chat with each other while umbers are being called. Striking up a conversation is made easier by having a common interest and a common goal - winning Bingo! Bingo prizes are known for being, well, awesome. We offer gift sets, perfumes, coloring kits and luxury goods for winning a Bingo game.
Today we celebrated Pervine Hassan's birthday! Our activity girls went above and beyond to ensure our lovely lady's birthday is as special as possible. Happy birthday Pervine!
A waffe a day keeps the doctor away! Waffle day is celebrated every 24th of August, and our residents really enjoyed cutting up pieces of fruit and using their favourite sauces. We were only too happy to join in the fun!
Sunday, fun day! It seems like our residents really enjoyed themselves. They were treated to a variety of drinks and snacks to their preferences! Nothing better than popping bottles of champagne on a sunny Sunday afternoon!
We celebrated International Hot Dog Day! The Activity Team dressed up in their hot dog costumes and served up the tasty treat to carers and residents. A hot dog with an interesting person is an amazing meal!
All thoughts about waistlines were set aside today as residents and staff delved into a variety of chocolate to celebrate world chocolate day, to honour and celebrate and savour one of man kind's best culinary invention!! Chocolate would have stimulated pleasant memories of the past and present in all no doubt.
We were privileged to celebrate one of Aspray's lovely resident's birthday! Gorgeous flowers and cake sent by her brother delighted her. What a lovely surprise! Happy birthday!
Nurse Petronela will soon be hearing the patter of tiny feet! She is eagerly awaiting the arrival of her baby due in just over a month! Petronela was delighted when her colleagues surprised her with a baby shower, celebrating this special occasion. She was incredibly emotional and overwhelmed with the amount of gifts and support she has received and thanked everyone for the beautiful baby shower. Aspray House would like to wish Petronela all the luck in the world on the arrival of her baby!
Amazing Father's Day organised by our activities team. Residents were treated to wonderful gifts which included toiletries. Our activities team specially catered for all residents including those with no families. Our residents also spoke to their loved ones on this lovely day making all the fathers feel special.
Today we celebrated the Queen's birthday at Aspray. Our activity team did an amazing job organising a party for staff and residents. Everyone in attendance was treated to delicious snacks and music singalongs. What a lovely way to spend a Saturday afternoon and bringing everyone together!
National Carers Week! Our Kitchen and Activity Team did an amazing job organizing an afternoon party. What a great way to show appreciation and bring our staff together! To all our Healthcare workers – 'A big Thank you' !! You help us when we are at our most vulnerable.
Residents took part in mind stimulating activities this morning. They felt a sensory pillow, played games on the iPad and watched jellyfish tank table lamps. The aromatherapy lamp which had a refreshing eucalyptus smell promoted a sense of relaxation. The experience was soothing and calming.
Thank you to Dr Isobel from the community team who made and donated us a box of Face Shields for our staff. How thoughtful! Your kind donation is much appreciated.
We received some lovely pictures from Curwen Primary School in Plaistow which really put a smile on our residents faces. They made them so we could hang them up in our garden. Thank you for the colorful pictures and for cheering us all up!
The Wing Sisters - Imogen & Cerys came to Aspray House and sang for our residents today. Thank you so much girls, it was a real pleasure to have you there and bring a smile to our residents and staff; everybody appreciated it.
We celebrated Sheila's birthday on Saturday. The kitchen staff made her a lovely cake whilst they staff sang Happy Birthday. Thanks to technology, Sheila also enjoyed seeing all her family via Zoom which made it extra special for her. We hope you enjoyed your zoom party Sheila.
We would like to say a big thank you to all the key workers and especially a big thank you to our wonderful staff for all they are doing for our residents. Keep safe and stay alert everyone; we can do this!
Residents enjoyed a little pamper session this afternoon which included hand massages and manicures. One lovely resident Maud, made the most of the pampering experience and had her nails painted pink; don't they look great!
Residents and the team at Aspray House had an Afternoon Tea themed trolley for Dementia Awareness Week and was enjoyed by all. Thank you to our wonderful staff for giving joy to our residents.
Technology is best when it brings people together. Our residents have been able to Skype with their loved ones to let them know how they are doing. What a great way to let you all know that we are thinking of you all.
'Donut worry, be happy' - At Aspray we promote the importance of nutrition and hydration, so we ensure that residents get all the food and drink they need to stay healthy and happy. Resident have enjoyed having some delicious baked doughnuts, fruits and cupcakes.
'For everything I am today, my mother's love showed me the way' - We know today might be a hard day for some, particularly with the current situation. With this in mind, we wanted to remind you that our doors might be closed for now, but our hearts are open. We are sending the warmest wishes and buckets full of love to all of you on this Mothering Sunday.
A huge thank you to TKmaxx in Walthamstow who donated items of food and other items to us here at Aspray House this week! We distributed it among all our lovely staff.
Margaret turned 100 years 'young' on 8th March 2020 and was joined by family, friends and residents for a party hosted by the team at Aspray House. Highlights throughout the day included a personal birthday card from The Queen, presents and a cake which had been specially baked by our cook. Who doesn't love cake?!
Pancake day celebration kicked off in style with our lovely pancake trolley, once the pancakes were cooked by our amazing kitchen team, Residents were joined by other residents as they enjoyed the sweet treats with a variety of toppings during their afternoon tea.
Musicians came to Aspray House throughout the month with their top range of songs which our residents enjoy. There was a lot of participation from our residents with singing, dancing and joining in with percussion instruments.
Our residents had flowers cut and handpicked by our local florist today. We began to arrange our flowers together, sharing ideas on what was working best! It was a wonderful activity that brought everyone together and adding colour and vibrancy to our living spaces.
